Tickets

Lazer/Wulf, Double Ferrari, Bit Brigade

The Earl - 488 Flat Shoals Ave. S.E. Atlanta, GA 30316 $12. 6 p.m.

Listen to any Lazer/Wulf song and it’s easy to tell the experimental metal trio calls Atlanta home. The group’s genre-bending sound embodies the disparate mishmash of styles that intermingle within the city limits. Glimmers of doom metal, prog rock and even jazz form the bedrock of its sound, though the group’s stylistic foundations are constantly shifting. Lazer/Wulf augments its unpredictability with head-spinning song structures and breakneck riffs that feel effortless. The group’s most recent release, The Beast of Left and Right, showcases each member at their best as they unleash a flurry of spastic guitar solos, white-knuckle bass riffs and whirlwind rhythms.

The Jeff Crompton Trio

The Mammal Gallery - 91 Broad St. S.W. Atlanta, GA 30303 $10 (or whatever you can afford). 9 p.m.

Alto sax man Jeff Crompton is a true Atlanta gem. When flanked by drummer Bob Stagner of Chattanooga’s Shaking Ray Levis and standup bass player Evan Lipson, the group delves into a whirling, psychedelic dirge of hard bop and avant-garde jazz trips to the outer limits. Crompton’s compositional elements are strong, and his nods to traditional style are clearly on display. But when the Trio’s collective subconscious takes over, there’s no telling how far out they’ll go. The music is Southern by design and interdimensional in nature driven by a level of silent telepathy that only years of experience and a deep understanding of music can foster.
