SEE and DO: Lydia Loveless plays the Star Bar Sept. 19-20

The fiery singer-songwriter revisits rarities, covers and more with ‘Boy Crazy and Single(s)’

The evolution of Lydia Loveless continues. Since her twangy 2011 breakthrough album Indestructible Machine, the Ohio-based singer-songwriter has moved increasingly more toward pop-rock, first with 2014’s near-perfect Somewhere Else, then on 2016’s more polished Real. Next up: Boy Crazy and Single(s), a collection of odds ‘n ends that includes some beer-soaked covers (Kesha’s “Blind” and Prince’s “I Would Die 4 U”) as well as a handful of shimmering originals packed with Loveless’ potent blend of big hooks and blunt honesty. Two nights of music from one of the most compelling songwriters going at an intimate spot like the Star Bar? That’s sure to be a good time.

With Devon Gilfillian (Sept. 19) and Nikki and the Phantom Callers (Sept. 20). $15. 10 p.m. The Star Bar. 437 Moreland Ave. NE. www.starbar.net.
