“Isn’t there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about?!” So exclaims the protagonist in Charles Schultz’s 1965 classic A Charlie Brown Christmas. Revisiting Vince Guaraldi’s jazzy score is a seasonal tradition for T.T. Mahony (piano) and Jeffrey Bützer (drums). This year, they’re joined by bass player Mike Beshara to celebrate 10 years of bringing the music to the stage. The trio plays back-to-back shows at the Earl Dec. 15 and 16, breathing new life into Guaraldi’s 40-minute score, laced with all the memories and melancholy undertones that build up around this time of year.

A Charlie Brown Christmas originally aired in 1965 — more than 50 years ago — and still evokes a deep sense of nostalgia for Christmas time as Charlie Brown ruminates on how commercialization has taken much of the charm away from the season. Bützer, Mahony, and Beshara are joined by singers Cassi Costoulas and Kelly Sirmans to create an environment where the audience can reflect on warm, childhood memories, and maybe, just for one night, forget about all of the holiday chaos.

And if you can’t make it out to the Earl this weekend, the group is squeezing in one last show before Christmas, at Karvana on Dec. 23. Tickets are available via Bandcamp
