Cathy Woolard endorses Alex Wan for Atlanta council president

'If Wan doesn't win, the Atlanta council will be devoid of LGBT representation'

Alex WanJoeff Davis/CL fileEx-mayoral candidate Cathy Woolard has endorsed Atlanta City Councilman Alex Wan's bid for council president.

Wan is up against Councilwoman Felicia Moore in the Dec. 5 runoff election.

Woolard, a former council president herself, said at a mayoral candidate panel discussion Tuesday that next week's vote will play a pivotal role in the future of LGBT representation at City Hall. "If Alex Wan isn't elected in the runoff, it will be the first time since I won the election 20 years ago that there will not be a gay person on the city council," she said, according to Atlanta magazine.
