Quick Bites: Chef Nick Leahy to open two new spots in Westside, Woody's Cheesesteaks expands to Buckhead, Smokebelly bids farewell and more

FRESH TAKES: Saltyard's Nick Leahy will open two new restaurant concepts in Westside.

Saltyard’s Nick Leahy will open two new spots in adjoining spaces at the Westside Stockyards development on Brady Avenue. Both will showcase the influence of his Southern French roots. AIX, opening in “late 2018” will be a menu of Provencal classics while Tin Tin Wine Bar will focus on wine and small plates.

Midtown’s beloved Woody’s Cheesesteaks is expanding to Buckhead. Steve Renner, who purchased the 43-year-old institution in 2010, procured 45 Irby Avenue and expects a summer opening.

Buckhead BBQ restaurant Smokebelly has closed, making way for a new Mexican concept in the 128 E. Andrews Dr. location. We’ll miss the quinoa salad. Don’t fret though, attached speakeasy the Blind Pig will remain open. 

Hop City Craft Beer & Wine just keeps growing. A new location will open this fall next to Monday Night Brewing’s Garage at the new Lee + White development at West End. Chef Matty Hutchins will preside over the kitchen of the adjoining restaurant. 

It’s going down … on a Monday. Oak Grove’s Kitchen Six (2751 Lavista Rd.) is now open on Mondays. Beginning Feb. 12, diners can enjoy chef Jason Jimenez’s concise menu of six bites, six starters, and six entrees on an additional day.

The Good Food Award winners were recently announced in San Francisco. Out of 2,057 entries from 40 states, Georgia producers and artisans brought home seven awards from 15 categories. Congratulations to: Richland Rum (spirits), Sweet Grass Dairy (cheese), Regina’s Farm Kitchen (preserves), Xocolatl Small Batch Chocolate (chocolate), MtnHoney (honey), Oliver Oil Co. (oils), and A&A Alta Cucina Italia (pantry).

We got your taco Tuesday sorted. Babalu Tapas + Tacos (33 Peachtree Pl. NE) now celebrates “Taco Twosday” with $2 dine-in tacos on Tuesdays for lunch and dinner. We dig the Atun with spiced seared saku tuna, cilantro slaw, and Sriracha lime crema.

Atlanta Gallery Collective, the pop-up art gallery at Ponce City Market has extended its viewing through March 31. Located on the 2nd floor above the Central Food Hall, the gallery houses portraits of James Beard Award winning and nominated chefs and mixologists.  Photographer Erik Tanner captured the lovely mugs of such notables as Ticonderoga Club’s Greg Best and Empire State South’s Hugh Acheson.
