Art in ‘Bloom’ at Mindzai

Mindzai Creative hosts an opening for its upcoming group show, Bloom, this Friday in conjunction with the Castleberry Hill Second Friday Art Stroll. Bloom features the work of 20 artists from across the country, including Colin Frangicetto, Leela Hoehn, Jesse Jagger, Susannah Caviness, Ben Thomas and Mindy Fletcher, among others. Original paintings, prints, pins, patches, apparel and more will be for sale, and PBR will be on hand, along with cotton candy from Cult Carts. In an effort to #keepmammalalive, the Downtown art and music venue hosts a silent art auction. Guests can bid on pieces by local artists who have agreed to donate a portion of the sales to Mammal, whose future remains unclear following news that many Downtown buildings, including the one that houses Mammal, has been sold to a developer. 7-11 p.m. Fri., April 14. The Moth Atlanta StorySLAM is an open-mic storytelling competition open to anyone with a five-minute story to tell related to the night’s theme. It’s Easter weekend in Atlanta, and the Amorettes, the “Infamous Camp Drag Queens of the South,” plan to celebrate in style. Living Walls’ first public art performance, Bust it Open by Danielle Deadwyler, takes place this Saturday on Auburn Avenue. Deadwyler, the first recipient of Living Walls’ Laura Patricia Calle Grant, will explore the question: What is the work that you require of black women and mothers in your life? For the multimedia public performance, Deadwyler will be accompanied by a silent film and the sounds of black women’s voices and songs.
