Since 2008, Ty Segall has carved a niche as one of the most prolific West Coast songwriters working within the realms of garage pop and psychedelic rock. Known for wielding a broad musical palette that spans everything from heavy riffs to low-key folk strumming, Segall is a multi-instrumentalist who wears many hats. The songs on his most recent album, Freedom’s Goblin, flow freely between the layered garage rock of “Fanny Dog” to the stomping, sax-driven funk on “The Main Pretender,” and the British-Invasion psychedelia of “Rain.” In the ned, Freedom’s Goblin is a kaleidoscopic distillation of Segall’s output from the last decade.
