OH MY: Queer festivals are such a drag!

In a world of rainbow capitalism, the Southern Fried Queer Pride festival is a breath of fresh summer air, sweet with the smell of cornbread. The eponymous Atlanta-based queer and trans advocacy and artists’ network will be hosting a variety of free events (with suggested donations) ranging from parties to memorials. The five-day celebration begins rolling out the festivities on June 20 at 8 p.m. with the No Boys Allowed tea party social, but feel free to mingle at the Bakery as early as 1 p.m. Other events include a memorial on Thursday evening for local trans folks lost to hate crimes, followed by a night-long showcase of locally sourced, homegrown queer films. Get hype for a recipe of music, art, and community, all garnished with a sprinkling of delicious Southern cuisine from local vendors Saturday and Sunday. If you’re queer, be here!

Free. Suggested donation $5-20. Various times. Wed.-Sun., June 20-24. The Bakery, 825 Warner St. S.W. www.southernfriedqueerpride.com.
