Bad Axe Throwing celebrates International Axe Throwing Day

Yes, you heard right... June 13 marks the official second annual International Axe Throwing Day.  Established in 2017 by the World Axe Throwing League, an organization that coordinates axe throwing events across the globe, is the latest in ATL’s wild holidays. Guests are encouraged to lob incredibly sharp, tree-felling instruments at targets. The event serves to honor this niche sport, in which one throws axes at a bullseye target and receives points for accuracy. The sport originated in the 19th century as a contest among lumberjacks, but was popularized in Canada where it was adopted into the indoor environment. To honor the occasion, Atlanta’s own Bad Axe Throwing, a group that prides itself on providing expert coaching on throwing these shrewd tools, is one of several locations to offer free axe throwing sessions. Bad Axe Throwing was founded by Canadian-native Mario Zelaya in 2014, who is also responsible for establishing WATL itself. At these free throwing sessions in Atlanta, guests will also be allowed and encouraged to bring friends and family for a (safe) group competition.
