Miso Izakaya shutters, Bar Crema relocates, and more

GOAAAAAL: A partnership between Atlanta United and Old Fourth Distillery is a total score for ATL.

After nearly ten years, Chef Guy Wong is shuttering Miso Izakaya (619 Edgewood Ave.) on July 28, citing leasing agreement terms. The place was packed last night as adoring fans sipped Unsung Heroes and dug into shoyu tomago with nostalgia. Wong’s other restaurants, Ton Ton in Ponce City Market and Le Fat in Westside, are still going strong.

On Wed., July 11 Old Fourth Distillery announced a multi year partnership with Atlanta United. At an elaborate unveiling, Atlanta United Gin 2018 season bottle was revealed. The flashy bottles match the soccer team’s red stripes and contain O4D’s Southern dry gin made with locally sourced botanicals, starting with juniper berries from Oakland Cemetery. Snatch the commemorative bottle while you can. Local retailers will have them by the end of the month.

There’s a new spot to quench your Americano thirst. Recently shuttered Bar Crema is relocating their fancy Italian coffee equipment to the lounge space of Decatur’s The Pinewood.

Fresh Market, a chain of gourmet supermarkets, is closing 15 stores across the country including two in the metro area. In the next few weeks the Snellville (1679 GA 124 Scenic Hwy.) and Druid Hills (2480 Briarcliff Road.) locations are set to close.

A pancake paradise is coming to Ponce City Market, and it’s called Pancake Social. The restaurant is serving all-day breakfast and specialty coffee, and will have outdoor and indoor seating near PCM’s North Ave. entrance. The team behind the concept is illustrious, including Anne Quatrano (Bacchanalia, Star Provisions), Tony Riffel (Octane Coffee), Steven Chan (Tin Drum), and Dan Jacobson (Steel Wave Ventures, Chick-fil-A). Breakfast begins this winter.

Restaurant Holmes opened in Alpharetta’s City Center this week. The restaurant is located inside a historic home that was built in 1915. Executive Chef Taylor Neary (Marcel, St. Cecilia) focuses the menu on shareable small plates for dinner and a creative bar program, with lunch service coming in the next few months.

Charcoal rice, mole sauce, and grasshopper salt are just a few of the menu items to look forward to when Casi Cielo (6125 Roswell Road) opens. The team behind La Parrilla Mexican Restaurant will open the Oaxacan restaurant in Sandy Springs’ Modera development in early August. Look for more than 50 types of mezcals to pair with Executive Chef Juan Ruiz’s menu.

It’s Friday the G13th at SweetWater Brewing Co.! Celebrate the latest 420 strain release, G13 IPA, which has terpenes and proprietary hemp flavor that mimics cannabis aromas. The party begins at 4:20 p.m. in the Taproom with live music, and food by Nedza’s Waffles and Brain Food Hawt Cheese.

Hankering for half shells? Hit the patio of Roswell’s C&S Chowder House (12040 Etris Road.) for $1 oysters Mon.-Fri. From 3-6:30 p.m. or Sat. & Sun. from 2-5 p.m. with half priced cocktails, wine, and beer.


The team behind Buckhead’s Storico Fresco (Michael Patrick, Pietro Gianni, And Thom Williams) plan to open a Roman inspired restaurant in the quaint Westside provisions space vacated by Little Bacch (1198 Howell Mill Road.). What Now Atlanta first reported that currently unnamed restaurant will open early 2019.

Exciting news! Construction has begun on Chop Shop, a collaboration between Pine Street Market and Riverview Farms, bringing artisan meats full circle. Chop Shop is located at 1366 Memorial Drive.
