CANDID CAMERAS: Hot Snakes

When Hot Snakes started teasing a new album, it seemed too good to be true. Swami John Reis and Rick Froberg have spent a lifetime developing a formidable guitar chemistry driven by the power of furrowed brows and unapologetic muscle — born of Southern California post-hardcore and tempered by the intellectual angst of ’90s indie rock. Jericho Sirens, the group’s fourth album, and first for Sub Pop, shows off a fascinating time of change for the group. Sure, the pulverizing thrust of “I Need A Doctor,” “Six Wave Hold-Down,” and “Death Camp Fantasy” evoke the fiery and melodic dirges of Hot Snakes’ early aughts classics. Here, each song resonates with measured tension. Call it what you will — maturity, experience. Jericho Sirens is tough-as-nails but precise in its execution.

With Jacuzzi Boys. $22. 7:30 p.m. Mon., Sept. 10. Masquerade, 75 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive S.W. 404-577-8178. www.masq.com.
