Construction at Buckhead's Atlas, Wayback Burger coming soon, and more

Missing Miso Izakaya like we are? Miso Ko from Chef Guy Wong opens this weekend (9/8) at Ponce City Market. The ten-seat sushi counter and grab and go area adjacent to Ton Ton serves up nigiri, made to order sashimi, specialty rolls, nigiri, and makimono. Look for specials like freshwater eel, soft-shell crab, sweet tofu, and octopus.

Renovation construction is underway at Buckhead’s Atlas for a new terrace for an all-season dining experience. The garden design of vaulted glass and sliding glass windows will be filled with “focal trees” among the 100 seats in the dining area and 24 at the bar. The extension of Atlas is set to open early 2019. 

Their Instagram has been teasing us with a traveling pint glass for months. Finally Glover Park Brewery opened this week on Marietta Square (65 Atlanta St.). There is a dog friendly beer garden to sip a Some Beach tropical ale with your pooch.

Just in time to pack the sandals away, Flip Flops in Midtown has closed. After ten years of dancing, balcony hangs, and slushy drinks, the Crescent Ave. bar’s lease ran out.

The Atlanta History Center holds its 6 th annual Back to the Farm dinner on Friday, Sept. 14, hosted by chef Kevin Gillespie. The family style Southern feast includes Sam Jones (Skylight Inn BBQ), Suzanne Vizethann (Buttermilk Kitchen), and Seni Alabi-Isama (SmoQue Pit). Light bites and cocktails by Gunshow’s Mercedes O’Brien will be served around the Smith Family Farmhouse (one of Atlanta’s oldest surviving) and family style dinner follows in the Grand Overlook. Kyma’s Pano Karatassos has a cookbook coming out next week. You can cook from it now thanks to meal kit service Garnish and Gather. Through Sept. 10 their kits offer his slow baked salmon with lemony quinoa and wilted wild greens. “This is one of my favorite healthy meals and a perfect way to introduce home cooks to the recipes in Modern Greek Cooking,” say Karratassos. 

Wayback Burger, the Connecticut based fast casual burger joint, is coming soon to Emory Village (3515 Chamblee Tucker Road). Signs are up for burgers (veggie and turkey too), house made chips, and milkshakes.

Grab that prosciutto baguette again! After a short hiatus, Anne Quatrano’s Little Star is reopened at Westside Provisions District (1198 Howell Mill Road) Breakfast all day, bowls, and sandwiches are served Mon.-Sat. 8 a.m.-6 p.m.

It may just be the location. Revelator Coffee’s Mourning Dove in the Shops at Buckhead quietly closed over Labor Day weekend much like the previous tenant Corso Coffee. Mourning Dove opened in December of 2017.

Along with the coming of football season, chef Kevin Gillespie is reopening the backyard bar and outdoor eating area in Decatur this Saturday, Sept. 8. Gillespie noted in a release, “There is something so satisfying about getting together with friends and family outdoors in the crisp fall weather.” Watch games behind Revival in the shaded bar area of Communion.
