Welcome to Creative Loafing’s weekend roundup podcast for April 5-7. Music Editor Chad Radford joins Will Cardwell, Jacob Chisenhall, and special guest Jordan Reynolds to shout out their top picks for weekend events. Turn on, tune in, go out!

Fri., April 5th
Coffin Dust, Malformity, Cemetery Filth, and Demiser.
It’s been nearly five years since Philadelphia’s Coffin Dust graced Atlanta with its gnarly presence. Former Exhumed bass player Matt Slime pushes death metal to new depths of depravity while celebrating its 10-year anniversary. South Carolina’s hardcore thrash metal crew Demiser marks its Atlanta debut, sharing the stage with Cemetery Filth, and local death metal legend Malformity. Say your prayers and stretch your neck of a night of sleazy, crusty, black metal mayhem and punk-thrash that’s Southern AF. $10-$12. 9 p.m. 529

Derrick Carter.
Legendary Chicago house music producer Derrick Carter brings the infinite beat to the Music Room. $10-$12. 9 p.m. The Music Room

Atlanta Film Festival.
Join the more than 25,000 people who attend the Atlanta Film Festival each year and enjoy a variety of documentaries, shorts, narratives, animated films, and more. Now in its fourth decade, the weeklong fest — one of only two-dozen Academy Award-qualifying festivals in the United States — also features in-person dialog with stars and filmmakers. Through April 14. Free-$125+. Check their website for a full list of venues and times.

Sat., April 6
Bit Brigade, Paladin, Double Ferrari.
Athens-based Bit Brigade has found a way to blend the group’s love of retro gaming and musicianship into an unrivaled spectacle. The five-piece, featuring a “gamer” and four musicians, chooses a NES game and performs the soundtrack in its entirety, set to a live playthrough. The gamer does his best to speedrun the classic title in front of an audience, a challenge in itself, while the musicians must keep up with the fast-paced twists, turns, and tempo changes that accompany a real-time video game soundtrack. The group has covered games such as Zelda, Castlevania, and Metroid in the past, but are currently set on conquering Mega Man III. $15. 9 p.m. The Earl.Spring Festival on Ponce
It’s time once again to stroll through the Olmsted Linear Park on Ponce de Leon Ave., taking in a weekend of art, music, food, and outdoors time in one of the city’s most alluring greenspaces.
Free. Sat., April 6, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sun., April 7 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

Dad’s Garage Big Stupid Parking Lot Carnival.
An annual fundraiser that combines aspects of a festival and theatrical craziness found only at Dad’s Garage. There will be drinks, great food, rides, and improvisers manning booths like “hobo wine tasting,” “wheelchair obstacle course,” “bad caricatures,” “improvised erotic fanfiction,” and the always-popular “flip cup tournament.” $10-$55. 1 p.m. Dad’s Garage.

Sun., April 7
Chris Cohen, Karaoke, True Blossom.
Captured Tracks recording artist Chris Cohen (ex-Deerhoof, the Curtains) plays the Earl supporting his third, self-titled album. This latest offering blends melancholy pop lyrics, melodies, and textures into his most accessible album yet, drawing to a close the loose noise-pop and post-rock song cycle that he created with 2012’s Overgrown Path and 2016’s As If Apart. Check out the video for Green Eyes (below). $10-$12. The Earl
