NEWS BRIEF: Rapid transit bus system cranking up in Atlanta
Rapid transit redux
Atlanta’s first foray into rapid transit by bus will start happening late next year, according to MARTA. The Summerhill Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), a pilot program costing $61.5 million, will connect south downtown to the southern arc of the BeltLine passing through Peoplestown, Summerhill, and the Capitol Gateway. The buses will travel the 4.8 mile round-trip route in dedicated lanes painted red thus avoiding regular vehicle traffic, and its drivers will have the ability to activate traffic signals at almost 30 different intersections for a quicker ride. axios.com
