People facing eviction in Atlanta could get to keep their homes, if a new proposal introduced by City Councilman Michael Julian Bond goes into effect. The legislation would allow the Office of the Public Defender to assist indigent clients with administrative hearings resulting from eviction notices. Typically, only 20 to 30 percent of tenants respond to eviction notices and are thus evicted with no hearing or trial. axios.com
