The Atlanta Braves won the World Series out of desperation, according to The Guardian. Calling them “perennial underachievers,’’ the U.K. paper says the overall theme of the final game was “tactical disruption” as unheralded middle receivers replaced starting pitchers seemingly at random. Nevertheless, “the 2021 squad have exceeded expectations, though their fourth successive playoffs appearance indicates they are building solid foundations again in a big city that is not exactly spoiled for title-winning teams.” theguardian.com
