Future Expansion of the Beltline
The U.S. Department of Transportation is giving Atlanta and its ever-expanding BeltLine a $16.46 million grant for the construction of a two-mile stretch of the Southside Trail, connecting the Westside and Eastside Trails from Pittsburgh Yards in the southwest to Boulevard in the southeast. The corridor, which passes under an active railroad and a bustling road intersection, creates a safe route for school children to use. Clyde Higgs, President and CEO of the Atlanta BeltLine, said, “This project is much more than public infrastructure. With people at the forefront, the BeltLine is improving connections to jobs, schools, and opportunities, enhancing equity and mobility, and fostering culture.” beltline.org
