U.S. District Court Judge Lisa Godbey Wood plans to cast a wider net for potential jurors for the hate crimes trial of three white men convicted of killing Black jogger Ahmaud Arbery. A jury pool of about 1,000 people will be summoned from a territory covering 43 Georgia counties beginning on Feb. 7, she told prosecutors and defense attorneys at a pretrial hearing last week. The aim is to seat impartial jurors, she added. Greg and Travis McMichael and their neighbor, William Bryan, are being tried at the federal level for allegedly violating Arbery’s civil rights by pursuing him. theatlantavoice.com
