Preservationists are imploring the new owners of the historic Nabisco factory on Murphy Avenue to spare the architecturally-unique building from being demolished. Built in 1941, the massive structure was closed by the biscuit maker last year in a move that wiped out the jobs of 400 employees. The 32-acre site is now owned by California firm Prologis which has submitted an application to Atlanta’s Department of City Planning to raze it. No word yet on what eventually happens on the land if it’s approved. Zachary Adriaenssens, chair of the local neighborhood planning unit, called the building “an amazing community asset” and said he will impress upon the City Council “how against the demolition we are.” saportareport.com
