NEWS BRIEF: Backlog in sex offender review cases creating potential risk
Criminal justice system backlogged
Information gaps in Georgia’s sprawling criminal justice system have created a massive backlog of cases involving sex offenders. The Georgia Sex Offender Registration Review Board, created 15 years ago, is struggling to keep up with assessments of individuals due to inadequate funding, according to the AJC. That leaves more than 6,000 offenders living in communities across the state who have been released from prison on probation, but are not getting reviewed or rated. ajc.com
