NEWS BRIEF: Atlantans can now hook up their security cameras to police department
Criminal activity in real-time
A new security network allows the public to connect surveillance camera footage directly to the Atlanta Police Department, and residents and businesses are encouraged to sign up. Connect Atlanta enables police officers to access security footage from their phones and patrol cars before arriving at a crime scene. Police Chief Rodney Bryant calls it “a game-changer” and said it gives responding law enforcement the ability to respond quickly to criminal activity and emergency situations. “We’re moving from a video integration center to a real-time crime center.” The platform, created by Peachtree Corners-based Fusus, has already registered 4,500 cameras locally which could grow to 25,000 by 2023. Nearly 100 other communities nationwide have launched the program as well. connectatlanta.org
