All but one of Georgia Power’s coal-fired power plants in the state could shut down by 2029 if a new plan filed Monday comes to fruition. Known as the integrated resource plan, the document is required every three years by regulators to see how Georgia Power plans to continue meeting the electricity needs of 2.7 million customers. “You’ll have less coal generation; you’ll have more renewable generation,” said CEO Chris Womack. “You’ll have a reliable and enhanced grid that is more resilient.” There is no word yet on how much switching from coal to renewables would cost those customers. apnews.com
