The Jeff Crompton Trio

Alto sax man Jeff Crompton is a true Atlanta gem. When flanked by drummer Bob Stagner of Chattanooga’s Shaking Ray Levis and standup bass player Evan Lipson, the group delves into a whirling, psychedelic dirge of hard bop and avant-garde jazz trips to the outer limits. Crompton’s compositional elements are strong, and his nods to traditional style are clearly on display. But when the Trio’s collective subconscious takes over, there’s no telling how far out they’ll go. The music is Southern by design and interdimensional in nature - driven by a level of silent telepathy that only years of experience and a deep understanding of music can foster.
