“Where Bach meets the Negro Spiritual”
From the venue:
Venue: Friendship Baptist Church Atlanta 80 Walnut Street Atlanta GA 30314
If you don’t associate baroque composers with traditional black music, check out “Where Bach meets the Negro Spiritual” at Friendship Baptist Church of Atlanta. The Clark Atlanta University Philharmonic Society and University Choir will put side by side the great choral work of J.S. Bach “Magnificat” - first performed in the 1723 - with numerous Negro spirituals – that could have been “composed” during the same period. The concert will be accompanied by orchestra and augmented with five spectacularly gifted solo artists: Jazmin Salaberrios, soprano, Kierra Spearman Hogan, soprano, Daveda Browne, mezzo, Ravon Middlebrooks, tenor, and bass-baritone Christian Simmons. “It is our goal,” according to Conductor Curtis Everett Powell, “to experience a spiritual connection spanning the years centuries and genres.”
This FREE concert will be held on Tuesday 28 November 2017 @ 7:06 PM at the new Friendship Baptist Church at 80 Walnut Street, SW Atlanta
