Battle Trance thrives on musical juxtapositions. Formed by Travis Laplante, the tenor saxophone quartet performs long-form suites that are hypnotic and sublime while retaining a frazzled quality. Laplante, along with fellow members Jeremy Viner, Matthew Nelson, and Patrick Breiner, pits deep movements of drone and minimalism against squalling and sprawling sheets of noise, playing up the dynamic extremes of his instrument of choice.
