From the venue:

Poet, activist, and independent scholar Alexis Gumbs comes through Charis to present an interactive reading and discussion of her latest body of work, Spill: Scenes of Black Feminist Fugitivity. A collection honoring black women trying to be free of gendered and racialized violence, Spill channels black feminist scholar and literary critic Hortense Spillers, known for her essays on the gender construction of the black female. Spill offers poetry as an alternative to traditional vessels used to understand and investigate black feminist theory while speaking to black women’s experiences, spiritual and otherwise.
