MLK Day of Service

Sunday January 15, 2017 07:00 PM EST
Cost: Free w/ RSVP

From the venue:

As shit hits the fan socially and politically, folks on the internet like to share Martin Luther King Jr.’s words of wisdom. Phrases about nonviolence, peace, and love driving out hate are rendered empty by those who are hardly familiar with the civil rights legend’s work. What we can all take away from MLK’s legacy is this: Don’t just talk about it, be about it. Oakland Cemetery commemorates the late reverend’s birthday with a day of service beautifying the grounds for those who reside there and their visitors. Oakland is also offering free guided tours of the African American grounds, where Big Bethel’s Bishop John W. and his wife Julia A. Gaines, Mayor Maynard Jackson, and other notable Atlantans (MLK excluded) rest.
