Symposium on the efforts and accomplishments of freedpeople during post-Civil-War Reconstruction’s early years. Co-sponsored by the National Archives at Atlanta and the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society (AAHGS) Metro Atlanta Chapter. Topics include the search for lost family members, property claims, trial of a slaveowner who killed a former enslaved person, founding of Big Bethel AME Church, and research documents at the Archives. Dr. Heather Andrea Williams and Angela Walton-Raji among speakers. Portrayals of historic characters, exhibits of Chapter members’ family history research during the period, and music by the Lovejoy High School Choral Ensemble.
