More specifically Project Genesis focuses on renegotiating Ervin’s origins as a Black man who has no coherent ties to his past. Since this past is not readily available to him he offers his own version to the world. Ervin presents a reality that speaks to the man he wants to become, firmly grounded in the traditions of his past. By renegotiating the photograph he reworks the tainted aura brought on by the hardships of the Black experience.
