The Auburn Avenue Research Library will host local historian, Willie M. Bolden, who will facilitate the community lecture Black Seahawks: African American Whalers in the Age of Sail. This lecture will examine the maritime history of enslaved and free African American whalers during the Age of Sail, between 1740 and 1865. This discussion will also focus on the role these seamen played in helping forge new identities for African Americans in the United States.
