From the venue:

Talking Heads’ 1983 tour, immortalized by Jonathan Demme’s documentary Stop Making Sense, set a new standard for the creative potential and ecstatic joy of live music. So when frontman David Byrne promises to return to the stage with the most ambitious shows he’s done since Stop Making Sense, it’s important to pay attention. To promote his latest record American Utopia, Byrne has assembled a 12-piece ensemble more reminiscent of a ragtag drumline than a rock orchestra.

In typical Byrne fashion, this live band is heavily choreographed thanks to the talents of Annie-B Parson who also handled the intricate choreography on Byrne and St. Vincent’s 2012 tour promoting their record Love This Giant.

The American Utopia tour features Byrne with all of the creative excess and unbridled ambition that’s made him a music legend.

With Tune-Yards. $42-172. 7 p.m. Tues., October 2. Fox Theatre. 660 Peachtree St NE. (404) 881-2100. www.foxtheatre.org — Paul DeMerritt
