Multi-instrumentalist Marco Benevento entered New York’s downtown music scene via the jazz route, studying and performing with pianists Kenny Werner, John Medeski, and Brad Mehldau, to name a few. As he began to branch out, he added quirkier synth elements to his music, such as circuit-bending and sampling. His current style rests comfortably in the zone of a higher-energy Washed Out, with the sensibilities of a psych jam band or a superstar DJ. Benevento’s recent touring band has included Ween’s rhythm section, but whatever configuration comes to Atlanta, it’s sure to be fun. — Omar Khaligari
