High Museum 2019 Event - More for Members: Docent-Led Tour of Strange Light

Saturday May 25, 2019 12:00 pm EDT
Cost: Free - $14.50

From the venue:

Dubbed the “Father of American Surrealism,” Clarence John Laughlin (1905–1985) was the most important Southern photographer of his time. Explore an impressive collection of his signature photographs during this members-only tour on May 25.

Known primarily for his atmospheric depictions of the decaying antebellum architecture that proliferated in his hometown of New Orleans, Laughlin approached photography with a romantic, experimental eye that diverged strongly from the style of his peers, who championed realism and social documentary.

Strange Light: The Photography of Clarence John Laughlin features more than 80 prints in the Museum’s collection, including many from a landmark 2015 acquisition that will be on view at the High for the first time.

FREE for Members. RSVP by registering for your free tickets or by calling our Member & Guest Services Center at 404-733-4575 (Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.). Limit to participants per household.
