From the venue:

Liam Scarlett, the British choreographer, has been in Atlanta working on the world premiere of Catch, a piece commissioned by Atlanta Ballet. Featuring the 33 year old’s choreography set to the music of renowned composer Philip Glass, the score will be performed live by the Atlanta Ballet Orchestra. Scarlett is the London’s Royal Ballet’s first artist in residence and the youngest choreographer invited to present his work on the Royal Ballet stage. His work Consolations and Liebestraum was nominated for a Critics’ Circle Award. His Asphodel was a winner of the Critics’ Circle National Dance Award. Scarlett has worked with the San Francisco Ballet and the American Ballet Theatre, as well as the Queensland Ballet in Australia and the Norwegian National Ballet. His latest project includes Disney’s “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms.” We at Creative Loafing think this is a rare opportunity to experience a talent bringing a fresh take on a classic art form. The show is one of three ballet performances presented by Atlanta Ballet Artistic Director Gennadi Nedvigin. The Atlanta Ballet Orchestra will perform Glass’ Violin Concerto No. 1 during the Scarlett world premiere, as well as works by Igor Stravinsky and Benjamin Britten during the performances of Sum Stravinsky and Denouement, respectively. The Atlanta Ballet Orchestra is led by Tara Simoncic.
