From the venue:

I was born in Jackson, Mississippi and lived there for most of my childhood until I went away to college in the midwest. It was there that I began performing and writing songs. Thanks to some helpful professors and friends, I was able to thrive creatively and even find my way into a recording studio here and there. Soon after that, I surprised myself and fell in love with a Mississippi boy. After we married, we looked at a map of the U.S. and decided North Carolina might be a good place to live. So off we went with no jobs and no place to live.

Somehow we talked a man into letting us rent an apartment, and I started performing gigs in Chapel Hill, Durham, and Raleigh. I met John Plymale and he helped me make my first record called Night Air. WUNC was kind enough to start playing my songs from this and another record of hymns called Sanctuary. I started traveling around the country as a solo performer.

Since then I’ve made a few more records, a couple of which were put out by Yep Roc Records. I’ve also moved to Los Angeles, which is still hard for me to believe. One of the best things about playing music is getting to write and sing with other musicians and work with filmakers. Thanks for listening.” - Claire Holley
