he Masquerade (Purgatory), Sun. Aug 18 Mannequin Pussy’s latest record Patience is an exercise in cathartic emotional release. At the center is frontwoman Marisa Dabice, whose emotive wail unleashes among a collision of thrashing guitars and pummeling rhythms until there’s nothing left. It’s an album that functions solely at full-throttle, weaving through anthemic punk-pop (“Drunk II”) to delicate balladry (“High Horse”) with unmatched intensity. Clocking in at a modest 26 minutes, Patience presents a band completely attuned to the grief and heartbreak of growing older — but not without inspiring a couple of mosh pits in the process. - Jake Van Valkenberg
