In early 2017, Oso Oso came from out of nowhere — OK, Long Beach, N.Y. — to self-release one of the year’s very best albums straight to Bandcamp. It’s called The Yunahon Mixtape, and it’s a collection of 11 pop-rock songs built from crisp guitars, post-punk restlessness and a seemingly endless stream of instantly likable melodies. The band’s follow-up, Basking in the Glow, came out August 16, and it’s even better. The takeaway? Oso Oso’s main man Jade Lilitri might be the best young songwriter in underground rock ‘n’ roll, and he makes it sound easy. — BS
