Uncle Green was formed in Basking Ridge, New Jersey in 1980 by four childhood friends. They relocated to Atlanta in 1984, and over the next decade, singer-guitarists Matt Brown and Jeff Jensen, bassist Bill Decker, and drummer Peter McDade built a reputation on the burgeoning college-radio circuit for tight, memorable melodies and offbeat songcraft. After a few releases on dB Recs they were ready for the inevitably disappointing tour of the major labels, first with Atlantic Records (Book of Bad Thoughts), and then Sony Music (Vulure, bringing a new name to the new label: 3 Lb. Thrill).
