From the venue:

Take a musical journey through this exhibition with your guides Dwight Andrews and Robert G. O’Meally as they explore how Bearden’s Profile series has inspired other artists across many different media.

Composer, musician, educator, and minister Dwight Andrews joined the Emory College faculty in 1987. Dr. Andrews is Professor of Music Theory and African American Music at Emory University and Senior Minister of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Atlanta. In addition to his work as a pastor and professor, he is a composer and first-call jazz saxophonist and flute player. For years he was musical director for the plays of August Wilson, including “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone,” which is based on a Bearden collage in this exhibition called Mill Hand’s Lunch Bucket.

Robert G. O’Meally is the Zora Neale Hurston Professor of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University, where he has served on the faculty for thirty years. A scholar whose work encompasses literature, music, and visual art, Dr. O’Meally is the founder and director of Columbia’s Center for Jazz Studies and co-curator of the High Museum’s exhibition “Something Over Something Else”: Romare Bearden’s Profile Series.

Tickets are required. Guests will have access to “Something Over Something Else”: Romare Bearden’s Profile Series immediately following the program.
