In March 1964, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. auditioned a relatively unknown civil rights activist, dispatching him to Florida to spearhead for SCLC what would become ‘the bloodiest campaign of the Movement.’ So adept at stirring and converting the masses into nonviolent change agents, Reverend Hosea Williams made St. Augustine pivotal in King’s push to pass the landmark Civil Rights Act of ‘64. Experience the real-life drama of this transformative 18-month campaign where Rev. Williams masterfully marshaled civil rights foot soldiers before taking the lead at Selma. Join the National Park Service in marking Black History Month and come celebrate the work of Rev. Williams crystalized in the award-winning documentary film ‘Passage at St. Augustine’ to be screened with filmmaker Clennon L. King. The screening is free and open to the public.
