From the venue:

Whether it’s Prince, Beyoncé or Midori, there’s a certain mystique to single-name artists; they stand out for having unique abilities – and the Japanese-American violinist Midori is no exception. As an 11-year-old, she dazzled New York critics with the profound maturity of her musicianship before growing into one of the world’s most celebrated violinists.

This week, the rising-star Australian conductor Nicholas Carter makes his Atlanta Symphony Orchestra debut with Midori in a concerto peppered by the sounds of Hungarian folksongs. The concert concludes with a wartime piece written in 1944 as Russian troops turned the tables on the German army: Prokofiev’s massive and exhilarating Symphony No. 5.
