Atlanta native Joe Alterman studied music at New York University, earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in jazz piano performance. Alterman has performed at many world-renowned venues including the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, Birdland and New York’s Blue Note, where he opened many times for Ramsey Lewis, who calls Alterman an inspiration and “a joy to behold.” He has also opened for Dick Gregory, Norah Jones, John Pizzarelli and Philip Bailey of Earth, Wind & Fire.Alterman has released four critically acclaimed albums, most recently “More Cornbread” in 2018. In addition to his piano work, Alterman is executive director of the Atlanta Jewish Music Festival, a budding journalist, and he wrote liner notes for three Wynton Marsalis albums.
