Cost: Virtual only

From the venue:

THIS CONCERT IS NOW VIRTUAL ONLY AND WILL BE RELEASED FEBRUARY 4.

ASO: Gemma New, winner of the 2021 Solti Conducting Prize, returns to the podium in Symphony Hall. New first dazzled our audiences in Piedmont Park, filling in at the last minute for an ailing colleague. This weekend, she’s joined by classical guitar superstar Miloš Karadaglić, who returns to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra to perform Joby Talbot’s concerto Ink Dark Moon, a piece that pays homage to his Balkan heritage.

Also on the program, Rachmaninov’s Vocalise, written at his beloved country estate Ivanovka, and Sibelius’ Symphony No. 5, a masterwork born out of World War I, ill health and three hefty revisions. “These symphonies of mine are more confessions of faith than are my other works,” Sibelius said of his later symphonies, including his Fifth.
