Screening of Sweet Land

Wednesday October 6, 2021 07:30 PM EDT
Cost: Free

From the venue:

Named “Best New Opera of 2021” by the Music Critics Association of North America, The Industry’s Sweet Land is a grotesque historical pageant that disrupts the dominant narrative of American identity.

On October 6th, an outdoor screening of the filmed version of Sweet Land will be held on Emory’s Quadrangle. Like all of The Industry’s previous works, Sweet Land is the result of a highly collaborative and multi-perspectival approach. Composer Du Yun is a Chinese immigrant whose recent work originates from “a lack of understanding and empathy around immigration”. Cannupa Hanksa Luger, whose work is featured in the exhibition Each/Other: Marie Watt and Cannupa Hansker Luger, is a multidisciplinary artist who interweaves performance and political action to communicate stories about 21st-century Indigeneity. He co-directed Sweet Land with Yuval Sharon, the Founder and Artistic Director of The Industry and a 2017 MacArthur Fellow.
