Syd, Destin Conrad
CL Critic Matthew Warhol Recommends: It’s crazy the journey we’ve had with Syd. Some of us met her way back in 2011 when rap collective Odd Future had their big break — she was 18 at the time. Others, hopped on when she formed her Alternative R&B band, The Internet, making some arguably classic albums with the group. Her voice, light as air and gentle as satin, helped usher in the decade’s spacey, druggy sound. Now, on her second solo album, she again ditches her band in favor of smooth production and sweet hooks. Regardless of who Syd is with or what project she is making, the choruses are going to jam themselves in your brain. Over a decade in, she’s still making music we fawn for. — MW
CL Critic Joshua Robinson Recommends: Fresh off the release of her long-awaited sophomore album Broken Hearts Club, Syd is hitting the road in support of the new record. The former Odd Future member and current vocalist for The Internet has left her mark on multiple — and sonically disparate — musical collectives, but when she kicks off the Broken Hearts Club Tour on May 1, all attention will be on Syd’s new album and her second solo headlining tour. The 18-date tour will also feature support from rising Tampa, Florida-born artist Destin Conrad, who is best known for his smooth 2021 EP COLORWAY. - JR
