Atlanta’s summer music scene has got everyone marking their calendars. Luckily for white-knuckled music lovers across Atlanta, Smith’s Olde Bar is hosting a live event to kick off the summer strong on Thursday, May 7.

Houston In The Blind, the prog-psychedelic headliner formed in late 2014, will no doubt introduce its reverb-drenched guitar and arpeggiated synth leads to the crowd like an old friend. The haunting, spacey, hallucinogenic soundtrack of the group’s first self-titled album has hints of Washed Out (especially in tracks like “Run With Me”) and the marked talent of both Athens and Atlanta-based musicians. With Dead Confederate’s John Watkins on keyboard, Charlie Garrett on vocals, Snowden’s Corinne Lee on bass and vocals, and drummer Darren Dodd and producer/musician Kalen Nash both hailing from Ponderosa, the band’s faculty for technique was never in question.

As for the other acts, expect to bounce everywhere from layered, indie rock to jangly quartets. Nashville-based Kate Tucker and the Sons of Sweden are a lush, indie rock experience (think somewhere between Beach House and Spoon) that’s gaining a nice fan base — her charismatic stage presence and powerful vocals don’t hurt. Earl Burrows, an energetic foursome also from Music City, has a stylistic continuity, sure. That said, every song is totally fresh, which probably has something to do with the group’s reputation for engaging performances. As for the opening act, Angela Wolff, her vocals and melodies combine for an affective, memorable experience.

Doors open at 7 p.m., Wolff starts at 8 p.m., Earl Burrows on at 9 p.m., Kate Tucker at 10 p.m., and Houston In The Blind at 11 p.m. Tickets are $8 in advance, $12 at the door.
