Shirley Franklin, Peter Aman back Mary Norwood mayoral bid

A former mayor and an ex-rival are showing support for

Shirley JoeffJoeff Davis/CL fileFormer Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin is about to endorse mayoral candidate Mary Norwood, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Franklin, from Atlanta City Hall’s front stoop, stands with Norwood, as well as Peter Aman, a former mayoral contender who’s also throwing his weight behind her, and Council President Ceasar Mitchell, who endorsed the hizzoner hopeful on Tuesday.

Franklin’s backing could mean Norwood, the self-proclaimed Independent who’s been called a “closet Republican,” will be better postured to engage black and liberal voters.

These endorsements come on the heels of Norwood’s runoff rival Keisha Lance Bottoms earning the support of their city council colleague Kwanza Hall, who also ran for mayor, and ex-Mayor Andrew Young, who once backed Mitchell’s campaign, according to Fox 5.
