The Wedding Present plays the Earl March 19
The British shoegaze act returns playing songs from its 1987 debut album, ‘George Best’
Paying homage to the group’s 1987 debut album George Best, British rock stalwarts the Wedding Present return. Led by singer/guitarist David Gedge, the band’s only constant member, the Wedding Present has been an innovative outfit since forming in 1985. Following several well-received singles (legendary DJ John Peel was among the group’s early admirers) the band recorded and released George Best via Reception Records, and cemented a place in DIY history. The muscular guitars of the band’s early work have as much in common with Hüsker Dü and Mission of Burma as with Primal Scream or the Soup Dragons, and George Best is rife with tales of love, loss, and lust. Wry honesty and an experimental edge have ensured that the album, like the Wedding Present, remains relevant and engaging more than 30 years after its arrival.
