Best of Atlanta: Best Neighborhood Bar

The Highlander After Dark, Critics

Its Midtown neighborhood is pretty decent, but what makes THE HIGHLANDER such a great hangout is the “ideal” vision of a neighborhood it projects: One in which ink-drenched guys of menacing demeanor, looking like they were just thrown out of hell, cheerfully intermingle with (and serve drinks to) comparatively normal professionals, Christina Aguilera look-alikes, strippers, ultra-goths and open-minded couples fresh from the Landmark Midtown Art Cinema. The kitschy knickknacks, sturdy bar food and erratic air hockey table - who “wouldn’t” want to live in a neighborhood with a watering hole like this around the corner? “931 Monroe Drive. 404-872-0060.” More at Best Neighborhood Bar
