Shyne, Variety Playhouse — “Dear America, I’m only what you made me...Young, black, and fuckin crazy. Please save me.” Those were the first words vocalized on Shyne’s self-titled debut album in 2000, released while the Belizean Brooklynite was on trial for the events stemming from the infamous Diddy New York club shooting in 1999. Since neither his country nor his label offered a life raft, Shyne had to save himself. Over 25 years later, his derailed rap career remains one of the most significant what ifs of the 2000s. Instead of abandoning that legacy, the rapper-turned-politician is embracing it on his own terms. Due to his 10-year prison bid and subsequent deportation, the former Bad Boy artist never got the opportunity to tour in support of his debut album, but that all changes this holiday season. For the first time ever, Shyne is taking his captivating self-titled project on the road for a celebratory 26-date anniversary tour. His Atlanta stop is at Variety Playhouse, the perfect intimate setting to experience the record’s still-incredible production. — joshua robinson
